The Inter-Schools and Inter-Compound Football tournament organized by the Victor Tulutu Briggs Foundation came to a thrilling climax on Friday, August 23rd, 2024.
The event, held in celebration of the 40th birthday of the foundation’s Vice President, Mrs. Amelda Briggs, saw two teams from each category competing for the grand prize as winners of the tournament.
The tournament, which began on July 31st, featured two matches daily, showcasing the talents of young footballers from various schools and compounds in Abonnema and Obonoma communities of Rivers State, Nigeria.
The opening match was ceremoniously kicked off by the President of the foundation, Dr. Victor Tubotamuno Briggs, at Abonnema Stadium, where most of the matches were eventually played.
The grand finale took place at the Degema Stadium, marking the end of weeks of intense competition and sportsmanship.
The tournament not only celebrated Mrs. Amelda Briggs’ milestone birthday but also fostered community spirit and encouraged youth participation in sports.

2. Highest Goals Scorer: Samuel Ebikabor
3. Best Goalkeeper: Light Boyle
In addition to the main prizes, other compensation prizes were given to every participating team in both the Inter-Schools and Inter-Compounds tournaments, recognizing their efforts and participation.
This tournament aligns with the foundation’s mission of fostering sustainable development in Nigeria and beyond, focusing on five cardinal points: Education, Empowerment, Intervention & Outreach, Training and Capacity-building, and Sports Development.
The tournament was a resounding success, highlighting the dedication and skill of all participants and leaving a lasting impact on the communities.
